Past Perfect — Ministry book
The Past Perfect is used to show that a completed action happened before another action or a specific point in the past. Its main function is to put past events in the correct order.
Form: Subject + had + past participle
When I got to the station, the train had already left.
- Action 1 (earlier): The train left.
- Action 2 (later): I got to the station.

Past Perfect Continuous
Emphasizes the duration of an action in progress up to another point in the past.
Form: Subject + had been + verb-ing
She was exhausted because she had been running for an hour.
