ER night shift — Ministry book p. 20
Last night, paramedics rushed in with a man injured in a car crash. He had broken his leg before arrival, and his face was covered in blood. Nurses quickly took him for X-rays while Dr. Maha prepared to stitch a deep cut on his forehead. "Teamwork saved him," said the emergency room "ER" director proudly.
Outside, it was raining cats and dogs as Dr. Basem ran into the hospital, soaked to the skin. Inside, the emergency room was in full chaos—patients groaning, nurses hurrying, and machines beeping non-stop. In one corner, a teenager with a broken arm moaned quietly. A construction worker, pale as a ghost, clutched his bleeding hand, trying not to cry out.
Nurse Noura, calm under pressure, gave clear and confident instructions. "Prepare the sterile equipment and state its condition before use", she ordered.
Suddenly, the ER doors flew open. A panicked mother rushed in, holding her toddler. "He's not responding!", she shouted. The child had swallowed a coin. Without hesitation, the team jumped into action. Using a flexible scope, they carefully removed the coin. Moments later, the child opened his eyes. The mother wept with relief and gratitude. Around her, staff members smiled—some hiding their own tears.
As the sun began to rise, calm slowly returned. Dr. Basem sat down, exhausted. Around him, the team cleaned up and checked medical charts. Another night filled with fear, urgency, and life-saving teamwork had come to an end.
