3. Change to Reported Speech:
1. The doctor said, "Machines help me detect illnesses more quickly".

2. Study the Language Tip. Notice how the tense changes when we report statements. Then, do the following tasks.

Reported Speech (Statements)
Reading passage
When we want to tell someone what another person said, we can use reported speech.
Instead of using the exact words (direct speech), we change the sentence slightly.
E.g.:
Dr. Ali said, "Machines help people work faster."Dr. Ali said that machines helped people work faster.
Don't forget:
We often change pronouns (I → he/she, we → they)We often use that after reporting verbs (said, told, explained), but it's optional.We often change the verb according to the following:
present → past
past → past / past perfect

Language Reported (Commands & Requests)
When someone tells or asks another person to do something, we use reported speech to share that message.
➤ Commands (Imperatives):
Subject + told/ordered/asked/warned + object + to/not to + infinitive
e.g.- Direct: "Turn off the machine!"
Reported: The supervisor told me to turn off the machine.
Direct: "Don't touch the controls!"
Reported: She warned us not to touch the controls.
➤ Requests:
Subject + told/ordered + object + to/not to + infinitive
e.g.- Direct: "Could you check the system?"
Reported: He asked me to check the system.
Direct: "Can you update the software of my computer?"
Reported: He asked me to update the software of his computer.
➤ Change pronouns and time if needed.
e.g. - Direct: "Please, help me with my homework".
- Reported: He told me to help him with his homework.

5 In pairs: one student gives technical instructions for "How to use a photocopier, printer, or scanner", the other follows and then reports the instructions to the class.
