Writing Tip — Structure of a Review

Writing a Review — Ministry book

A review is a written opinion about something you have experienced, like a movie, a book, a restaurant, a product, or a place. The main purpose is to inform and persuade your readers.

Paragraph 1: Introduction & Overall Impression
Paragraph 2: Specific Details
Paragraph 3: Pros and Cons
Paragraph 4: Conclusion & Recommendation

Four main parts:

1. Introduction

Introduce the movie/book/restaurant · basic info · overall impression ("It's a must-see!" / "I was disappointed.")

2. Body Paragraph 1

Describe main aspects: plot/characters · atmosphere/food/service · design/features. Use descriptive adjectives!

3. Body Paragraph 2 (optional)

Specific likes/dislikes · give reasons · examples: "The acting was terrific…" / "However, the service was quite slow…"

4. Conclusion

Restate opinion · recommendation · "Overall, this film is fantastic…" / "I wouldn't recommend this restaurant if…"

Last weekend, I visited The Olive Tree, an Italian restaurant in Giza. While the food was excellent, the service was disappointing.
When we arrived, the waiter took a long time to greet us. After we ordered, it took over 30 minutes to get our drinks. However, when the food arrived, it was hot and delicious. The waiter was polite but seemed very busy.
Overall, I enjoyed the food, but I expected better service for the price.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, but it might be okay for a quick dinner if you're not in a hurry.
