LESSON 5 — How to Help Our Environment
Unit 3 Protect Nature, Protect Future · p. 46
📖
Reading — Persuasive article
Exercise 1
1. Read the following article and put the number of the characteristic. Drag numbers 1–5 into each blank.
1 Clear Opinion or Point of View
2 Strong Reasons and Evidence
3 Emotional Appeal
4 Persuasive Language (must, should, urgent…)
5 Call to Action
When we hear about worldwide issues like climate change, poverty, or hunger, it might seem impossible for one person to make a difference (). However, these problems can't be ignored – they must require collective action. If everyone takes small but meaningful steps, the combined impact could be huge ().
We should use the knowledge we gain to reflect on our global responsibilities. For instance, reducing waste, supporting ethical businesses, or advocating for fair policies may seem minor, but together, they must create significant change. The belief that individual actions don't matter couldn't be further from the truth—history shows that social shifts often begin with small, insistent efforts (). Environmental ruin can't be reversed overnight, but sustainable choices might slow its progression. Rather than feeling powerless, we should recognize that every positive action contributes to a larger solution (). The world's problems must be addressed collectively – and that starts with individual commitment ().
Change may not happen immediately, but persistence could lead to a fairer, healthier planet for all.
